There have been ongoing arguments, debates and claims that the chemicals that are put in the water (for various reasons) are toxic or harmless, depending on what side of the ‘fence’ one happens to be on. I have had my own feelings about the situation, and from the evidence that I’ve seen, there are definitely hazardous, dangerous, toxic, unhealthy chemicals being put in the water that we get from the tap as well as from bottled water sources.
In most water treatment facilities in the United States, chlorine is used as a disinfectant. The disinfectant’s purpose is to reduce the amount of pathogenic (disease-causing) organisms that live in the water. Chlorine also acts as a general biocide, killing germs, algae, and other micro-organisms. Chlorine is more than 3 times as effective as a disinfectant against Escherichia coli than equivalent concentrations of bromine, and 6 times more effective than equivalent concentrations of iodine.
The problem with water chlorination is that the chlorine can react with naturally occurring organic compounds found in the water supply to produce dangerous compounds known as disinfection byproducts (DBP’s). The most common DBP’s are haloacetic acids and trihalomethanes. The scary part of this is that the risks for certain types of cancer are not being correlated with the use of chlorinated drinking water. These DBP’s are now suspected of making the body more susceptible to cancer, and repeated ingestion of this chlorinated drinking water may raise cancer incidence up to 44% for populations that use this water. It has also been found that there is a direct correlation between chlorine exposure and chronic depression.
Another notorious chemical that is used in drinking water treatment is fluoride. One of the biggest problems with water fluoridation is that the form of fluoride that is added to drinking water is an industrial waste product from the phosphate fertilizer industry. It is not like the sodium fluoride that is added to toothpaste because it is hydrofluosilicic acid, and is not pharmaceutical-grade. It is a totally unpurified, industrial grade, corrosive acid which has been linked to increased levels of lead in children’s blood.
Although water fluoridation has been standard for water treatment for many years, it is time that the truth was known about it and widely disseminated. Once again, large corporate interests have ‘stacked the deck’ on this issue so that they can continue to profit from poisoning people all for the sake of making huge profits. The bottom line is that fluoride is not safe, and it can cause a huge number of ailments, such as dental fluorosis, heart disease, bone fractures, lower IQ, kidney disease, cancer, indigestion, asthma, etc. It is also known to be a powerful hormone disruptor, and interferes with thyroid hormones and metabolism.
Some scientists are trying to warn people that fluoride is not save, and is actually a potent toxin. Although it is illegal to dump this toxic poison into a river or body of water, what makes it suddenly safe to put directly into drinking water? A telling attitude is that pro-fluoridation scientists are mostly unwilling to have any meaningful or intelligent discourse or discussion about the issue. I suspect that this is because there is really no valid logical or scientific justification for mass medication of populations.
As always, if you really want to know the truth, you are going to have to find it yourself, or at least stray away from the propaganda that comes from the ‘experts’, authorities, and others who are ‘on the take’ to help multinational corporations earn obscene profits from dispensing poisons that keep you as their money ‘cash cow’. Expand your mind and take back your power!
