Even though doctors using this have only treated three leukemia treatments, they say that the results from this are amazing. Physicians at the University of Pennsylvania report that this treatment for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), the most common leukemia, made it disappear in two patients, and that it reduced it by 70% in the third patient.  In fact, in each patient, up to five pounds of tumor tissue was gone in a few weeks, and that it is still gone after a year.

The method that researchers from Abramson Cancer Center removed certain types of white blood cells (leukocytes). They then utilized an engineered, allegedly harmless version of the HIV virus and inserted a number of genes into the white blood cells. These genes were designed to get the cells to target and kill the cancer cells. Researchers grew a large batch of these cells and then injected them back into patients. These cells then began to mercilessly and persistently track down the cancer cells and kill them. Reports are that side effects from this type of treatment have been minor, at best. continue reading…

There’s a relatively recent article that I came across that deals with the trouble that pharmaceutical companies are having.  They are having major problems due to a number of factors.  The former pharmaceutical researcher (Johnathan Bloom, Ph.D.) that wrote this article speaks about the obvious factors that are negatively affecting the pharmaceutical industry.

He covers the phenomenon  of the large number of big money drug patents that are going to expire shortly. Just from expiring patents, he estimates that the Big Pharma industry will lose about $50 billion.

He also speaks on U.S. patent law, which allows a company to have exclusive rights to profits from the drugs that they produce. After taking in to consideration related issues, the effective length of the profit period is about 8 years. After that, generics are produced and the sales of the brand name drug plummet. In fact, he says that most drugs never reach a breakeven, since most of them take about a billion to develop.  In this type of pharmaceutical environment, the blockbuster multi-billion dollar profit drug is a critical element in the pharmaceutical drug paradigm. continue reading…

Although this is an orthodox chemotherapy treatment, it is substantial news, and I decided to speak about it nevertheless because of the high scrutiny under which Avastin (bevacizumab) has been subjected.  This substance already has approval for a variety of cancers, such as colon, brain, kidney, and lung cancers.

Bevacizumab (Avastin) works by blocking angiogenesis (i.e., the growth of new blood vessels that enable tumors to grow).  It is a humanized monoclonal antibody that inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A). It was the first angiogenesis inhibitor available in the United States for clinical applications.  It received its first approval for cancer treatment in 2004 when used in combination with standard chemotherapy for metastatic colon cancer and non-small cell lung cancer. continue reading…

There is a lot of controversy about the findings of a Dr Tullio Simoncini regarding the use of sodium bicarbonate for cancer therapy.  He says that based on his study and experience, cancer is a fungus, candida albicans to be exact.  He also claims that he has been having great success in the treatment of solid tumors with the use of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda).  But mainstream medical authorities like the American Cancer Society have been negative about these developments.

The American Cancer Society web site on sodium bicarbonate is precisely worded.  They never actually come out and say that baking soda does not work on cancer.  They make a bunch of leading statements about the topic.  They basically say that available scientific evidence does not support claims that cancer is caused by yeasts or molds, that sodium bicarbonate treats cancer, and that these claims are not supported by clinical or scientific evidence. continue reading…

A widely prescribed drug for diabetes, called pioglitazone (marketed as Actos in the United States), is now being investigated by the FDA because it may increase the risk of bladder cancer.  It is already known to increase the risk of liver damage in patients who take it.  It is also known to cause heart failure in some patients.  In spite of all of these possible side effects, the drug is still one of the most prescribed drugs for diabetes because it is only about half as likely to cause heart attacks as its most significant competitor, Avandia.

Amazingly, the FDA has recently prohibited the prescription of Avandia, unless it is being used as a last resort drug where all other diabetes drugs have failed. continue reading…

This is another man who has worked to treat and cure cancer. He tells a bit about his story and what he has done.

This man was diagnosed with cancer, and had cancer surgery to remove tumors from his ear and other structures that were near it (i.e., lymph nodes, neck muscles, etc.).  He was told that all the cancer was removed, but he later found more tumor growths on his head.  The physicians told him that chemotherapy and radiation would not work on his form of melanoma.  At that point, he declined to undergo further conventional cancer treatments. continue reading…

Hyperthermia is really not a totally alternative cancer treatment, but it may have value as a treatment.  It appears to enhance the effectiveness of conventional cancer treatments without adding any toxicity or side effects.  I think that it may be of value to the cancer patient that still wants to use chemotherapy and/or radiation treatments.

Hyperthermia can be used by itself, but is usually applied in conjunction with chemotherapy and/or radiation.  This treatment can damage or kill cancer cells by itself, but is usually more effective when used with other treatments.  This treatment may be somewhat related to IPT (Insulin Potentiation Therapy) as well.

Another advantage of this method is that it is relatively inexpensive.  It is also not toxic.  One apparatus that is used to apply the heat is called the BSG 2000, which is manufactured by the BSG Medical Corporation. continue reading…

I found an article in which a leading breast cancer surgeon strongly admonished the Prince of Wales for him publicly supporting alternative cancer therapy for cancer patients.  Although this report isn’t as timely as I would have liked (around 2004), it is very instructive as to the mindset of many medical professionals, and how they view things.  I decided to analyze what the physician was saying so that you could better see how they think.

Michael Baum, emeritus professor of surgery at University College London basically told Prince Charles that he was full of it.  The Prince was supporting the Gerson therapy for cancer (and many other diseases).  I do realize that this therapy doesn’t work for everybody (no treatment or therapy has a 100% cure rate), but Dr. Gerson did have a success rate that was higher than that for conventional cancer treatments(which is said to really be closer to 3% than what they claim it is). continue reading…

This is a 9 minute video made by Gwen Olsen, a woman who spent 15 years as a pharmaceutical sales representative.  She is definitely an industry insider, and she was appalled at what she was witnessing.  She couldn’t take it anymore, and has been on a crusade to spread the word about what she has seen of the pharmaceutical industry.  You will not hear this type of information from the majority of health care professionals because they want to have jobs, and many have spent many years to have the ability to work in the medical field.  She gave up her job because her conscience wouldn’t allow her to do it anymore.

The fact is that Big Pharma is not in the business of healing or healthcontinue reading…

It is not a bad thing to be run a business for profit.  Unfortunately, there can be a conflict between financial interests and what is best for the patient.  Given the present corporate paradigm where profits are the first, highest priority, this can have disastrous ramifications for medical policy.  A goal of more profit may motivate Big Pharma companies to sell expensive drugs to patients even though they may not be radically different from older, cheaper drugs.

Doctors are often willing victims of Big Pharma.  Their medical educations are heavily influenced by pharmaceutical companies.  It is to the point now where there are incredibly large numbers of prescriptions written by physicians.  continue reading…
