There’s a relatively recent article that I came across that deals with the trouble that pharmaceutical companies are having.  They are having major problems due to a number of factors.  The former pharmaceutical researcher (Johnathan Bloom, Ph.D.) that wrote this article speaks about the obvious factors that are negatively affecting the pharmaceutical industry.

He covers the phenomenon  of the large number of big money drug patents that are going to expire shortly. Just from expiring patents, he estimates that the Big Pharma industry will lose about $50 billion.

He also speaks on U.S. patent law, which allows a company to have exclusive rights to profits from the drugs that they produce. After taking in to consideration related issues, the effective length of the profit period is about 8 years. After that, generics are produced and the sales of the brand name drug plummet. In fact, he says that most drugs never reach a breakeven, since most of them take about a billion to develop.  In this type of pharmaceutical environment, the blockbuster multi-billion dollar profit drug is a critical element in the pharmaceutical drug paradigm. continue reading…

A widely prescribed drug for diabetes, called pioglitazone (marketed as Actos in the United States), is now being investigated by the FDA because it may increase the risk of bladder cancer.  It is already known to increase the risk of liver damage in patients who take it.  It is also known to cause heart failure in some patients.  In spite of all of these possible side effects, the drug is still one of the most prescribed drugs for diabetes because it is only about half as likely to cause heart attacks as its most significant competitor, Avandia.

Amazingly, the FDA has recently prohibited the prescription of Avandia, unless it is being used as a last resort drug where all other diabetes drugs have failed. continue reading…

I just read a very good article that speaks about ‘useful idiots’, and I think that is is very relevant to what is happening in the medical field.  It is also a microcosm of what has been happening in all of society, and in all major institutions in society.  I don’t have the time here to delve into all of that, but suffice it to say that virtually all of the things that we take for granted as ‘facts’, are either blatantly false, or that the assumptions and foundations that support them are faulty or specious.  Education, politics, medicine, sociology, economics, history, religion, etc., are all based on some very flawed logic.  I’m not trying to offend anyone, but this has been my experience after many years of studying all of these (and many other) topics.

After learning about the dubious veracity of truths I had been spoon-fed since my youth, I thought that science was not susceptible to such manipulation because it was ‘empirical’.  I was truly naive back then.  But when I got into medical school, my spirit was unsettled, and I could not bring myself to embrace it.  I was wondering where all the cures and effective treatments were, and when we were going to learn about them.  I guess that I figured out that if they weren’t teaching this information to us in medical school, they were never going to share this information with us.  If they aren’t teaching cures in medical school, but instead, were teaching more advanced factoids about physiology, histology, embryology, etc., what’s the point? continue reading…

Adam Abraham learns about the many beneficial uses of magnesium from Dr. Sircus. This segment is around 15 minutes of very important information for people suffering from heart disease, cancer, diabetes, migraine headaches, and other ailments.

Most people in the health community are focused on calcium, but what they don’t understand is that magnesium is more critical than calcium.  Historically, the calcium to magnesium ratio in the diet was 1:1.  Unfortunately there is not real mechanism in the body to retain magnesium in the body.  The present ratio of calcium to magnesium in the diet is now 2:1.   But for treating medical conditions, the ratio should be 1:2 continue reading…

Dr. Sircus speaks on the relatively unknown benefits of transdermal magnesium supplementation. It is virtually unknown to most people. This is the second part of his interview that was conducted by Adam Abraham. This segment is approximately 15 minutes.

Dr Sircus reveals that even small amounts of magnesium applied transdermally can be effective.  It is relatively easy to get the RDA requirement of magnesium from transdermal magnesium supplementation.  He goes on to give a testimonial (anecdotal) of a pediatrician who was suffering from diabetes.  He also had neuropathy that caused nerve damage in his feet.  This pediatrician then started supplementing with mega doses of magnesium, around 20 grams per day.  This amounts to approximately 40-50 times the RDA amount.  It is reported that he regenerated the nerves in his feet. It wasn’t clear whether or not he cured himself of the diabetes. continue reading…

Scientists have found that fructose sugar feeds cancer cells, and that fructose is metabolized by cancer cells and tumor cells in different ways.  It is known that fructose intake has been linked to pancreatic cancer.

They found that cancer cells have the ability to metabolize fructose to increase their growth rates.  This is critical information for cancer patients to know.  They need to reduce fructose intake.  We already know that sugar fuels cancer cell growth, but this difference in the way that the different sugars are used in the diseased cells is new information. continue reading…

The safety of Bisphenol A (BPA) has been a contentious issue for a long time.  It is a very important question because this chemical is in a huge number of our food products and containers.  It is in just about any plastic container that is clear, such as plastic water bottles.  It is in virtually all metal can linings.  It is also in cups, baby bottles, children’s products, eyeglasses, sports equipment, medical and dental devices, dental fillings & sealants, household electronics, etc.  Because it is so common, it is said that 93% of people have BPA in their bodies. continue reading…

There are certain risk factors for pancreatic cancer.  These are:

  • Age-most people diagnosed are over 60 years of age,
  • Smokers-are 2 to 3 times more likely to be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer than non-smokers,
  • Gender-men are 30% more likely to get this,
  • Race-African American men are more susceptible to this disease than Asians, Hispanics, and Whites, continue reading…

It has been recently reported that survivors of childhood cancers may be at risk for higher levels of diabetes later in life.  This is unfortunate.

A number of studies has suggested that radiation therapy used for cancer treatments can put patients at increased probability of experiencing diabetes and/or obesity subsequent to treatment.  It was found that patients who were treated with total body irradiation, cranial irradiation or abdominal irradiation had up to a 90% greater probability of contracting diabetes. continue reading…
